“Working with B&G Design Studios on Discoveries magazine has been a great creative collaboration. Their editorial design expertise took our magazine to a high level of sophistication and readability. And while they have a keen “consumer” magazine sensibility, they also know how to adapt to the idiosyncrasies of a large, complex institution such as ours. The creative process is always easy and fun — whether we’re pushing, or pushing back. I was worried about working with a design team on the opposite coast but it hasn’t been a problem: they are present and accommodating.”
— Laura Grunberger, Editor, Discoveries magazine
B&G Design Studios inherited pre-existing designed templates for this magazine project. After a few issues of working with the previous templates, B&G redesigned the entire magazine including: covers, feature articles, News & Notes, departments and the entire publication on the fly. Each issue contains extremely sensitive topics and we were challenged to develop original concepts for each article. B&G worked with over 30 illustrators and photographers combined to produce this nationally award winning magazine. B&G collaborated with the magazine editor and staff to develop sketches for each concept, then hired illustrators and photographers from across the country to generate final artwork for the magazine. B&G produced the magazine bi-annually and the magazine’s layouts are recognized nationally by the industry’s top art directors.
